Pop-Up Libraries

After the 2018 Georgia Library Association annual conference, my co-worker and I came back inspired. One of the initiatives that we took from the conference was the idea of Pop Up Libraries. Even though the concept had been presented by public librarians, we reworked it and adapted it to our academic library setting.

All of these pop-ups are co-created and extremely rewarding. Students are always shocked that we can bring the library to them!

First Pop Up, Fall 2018

(The theme centered around firsts in a series, since this was our first pop up).

Winter 2018 Christmas Break Pop Up

For this pop-up, we chose our favorite books and brought them over to the student center. We categorized the books based on how they made us feel and used large, laminated emojis to express those feelings.

Blind Date with a Book Pop Up

For this pop-up, my coworker really took the lead. I helped her pick the books, wrap the books in wrapping paper and ribbon, and create obscure dating profile descriptions for each one.

Summer Reads Pop Up

We did this pop-up outside! It was very hot, but students' reactions to the novelty of library books being outside made it worth it.
