Hi, I'm Sarah!

Welcome to my portfolio. Here you will find examples of my work in sports media which include broadcasting, achoring/reporting, videography, photography, and journalism.

ABOUT ME

My name is Sarah Person and I am a junior double majoring in sports media and communications and broadcasting at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

I have been a die-hard Nebraska fan my entire life and always dreamed of becoming a Husker. Sports have been my passion for as long as I can remember. I started playing them at the age of five and never looked back.

I realized that after high school, I was no longer going to be able to be on the court competing. I knew I wanted to stay involved in sports in some way. That is when I discovered my love for sports media and it has only grown during my time at UNL.

I began getting involved in sports media in my freshman year of high school. I joined our digital media program where we held a weekly news show. I hosted StormCenter. (Our school's version of ESPN'S Sports Center.) I recapped the games that week and created highlight reels. I also ran the camera for games on STRIV where people could tune in to watch.

I did this all four years and then my senior year I called play-by-play during the football games. This is when I realized that sports broadcasting was meant for me. I wanted to be behind the mic and calling the action live.

Here at the College of Journalism and Mass Communications at UNL, there is a saying. Do from Day One. This could not be more true. From the minute I stepped on campus I was given professional and real-world experiences that have shaped me into a better broadcaster/journalist.

During my freshman year, I enrolled in the UNLimted Sports experience lab and that is where my opportunities began. In just a matter of weeks, I was running the soundboard and doing color commentary on KRNU (our student radio station here at UNL.) I also was given experience in other fields of sports media including, journalism and photography. I wrote feature stories, and game articles and even took pictures at games as well.

As I began sophomore year, I was excited to continue doing what I love. I started calling a lot more games on KRNU. I also wrote for the student newspaper covering volleyball. I interned with KLKN here in Lincoln as a news intern during my second semester and gained a lot of experience in shooting video.

I really grew as a sports broadcaster in my sophomore year. I began calling PXP on multiple Husker sports, including volleyball, softball, baseball basketball, soccer, and football. I also had the opportunity to call games during the NSAA State championships. I called game during the volleyball, girls basketball and boys basketball state tournaments. I also made my TV debut on BTN Plus doing color commentary on Husker softball!

Currently in my junior year here at UNL I am still heavily involved with KRNU, calling many games. I have also started volunteering with Nebraska Nightly which is our student-run news show at the COJMC. I am a member of the sports crew where I go do many things which include anchoring/reporting, shooting highlights, and creating packages.
