My work explores the intersection of abstract design, memory, and emotion, utilizing bold colours, intricate patterns, and dynamic contrasts. Inspired by personal memories, significant moments, and photographic references, I aim to capture the visual aspects of these experiences and their emotional essence through abstract forms, vivid hues, and symbolic elements.
Creating abstract artwork is a deeply engaging and meditative process for me. The meticulous patterning, zentangle techniques, and geometric abstraction I employ are informed by my appreciation for constructivism, where the simplicity of form intertwines with the complexity of thought. The vibrant acrylic paints I use serve as both a source of visual stimulation and emotional resonance, while intricate patterns are executed with scrip liners and acrylic markers. These details are often juxtaposed with monochromatic shapes, introducing texture and offering a visual respite from the complexity of the patterns.
I am currently exploring the use of ultraviolet-reactive paints and three-dimensional elements, pushing the boundaries of my mixed-media practice. By incorporating diverse materials and surface design techniques, I aim to create unique, layered works that engage with colour, texture, and materiality in new ways.
Alongside my abstract work, I also make pieces rooted in personal memories and photographs. These works seek to transcend mere representation, altering colour palettes and compositions to evoke the emotions associated with the original moments. Often featuring friends, family, or other meaningful subjects, these pieces are reflections of the people and experiences that shape my life. I use layers of markers on pen and paper to create depth and texture, employing various liners to establish perspective and convey emotional nuance.
Looking forward, my practice will continue to blend abstract forms with deeply personal meaning. I am committed to further expanding the boundaries of pattern detail and colour interaction while continuing to experiment with new materials and techniques that challenge and enhance my creative expression.
