When the opportunity came to learn more about being a better digital citizen and teaching students how they could more safely access the Internet and media, I wanted to immerse myself in that kind of training because it is relevant to what they encounter daily. The need for this training in an educational setting is necessary as an educator to connect with stakeholders in all areas; the need for this training outside of academia is to make myself aware of how media presence affects us.

Before even starting my "roadmaps," which you'll find below, I had to complete the initial training, above, to see if I was fit for taking the Digital Citizenship course. I passed and was able to proceed with the training.

After completing the training for myself as an educator, I needed to decide if I wanted to continue designing my roadmap as a teacher or a trainer, and based on my career goals, I chose a trainer. I felt that this would enable me to have a thorough understanding of Digital Citizenship and would equip me with the ability to engage with more of the materials that CSE has to offer.

With the completion of this training, I am able to discuss with fellow educators the benefits of using social media in the classroom for educational purposes, I can communicate with parents about the effects social media has on their children's health, and I can have open, trustworthy conversations about media and Internet habits with students. Outside the realm of academia, I can hold myself responsible as a respectable digital citizen and help others see that their digital footprint leaves behind a permanent mark for the world to see.

I pride myself on being an active learner and wanting to better myself through education and technology, even while I have taken a break from the world of teaching to raise my son and recover from health concerns.
