Research interests

I am broadly interested in examining questions from the areas of theoretical/computational neuroscience and artificial intelligence. Particularly, I am interested in modeling the way our brain handles sensory uncertainty; how it takes decisions under uncertainty while integrating information from relevant stored memories to perform the task at hand. Cognitive biases have long been studied in philosophy and I believe it would be really interesting to model some of them mathematically.

By the way, my favourite paper right now is the Neuron Perspective article “Inference in the Brain: Statistics Flowing in Redundant Population Codes” by Pitkow and Angelaki. In the paper, the authors use statistical tools to develop their framework and go on to hypothesize that the brain performs probabilistic inference using recurrently connected probabilistic population codes.

Previous research

My Master's research was in the area of stochastic resource allocation in wireless communication networks. I used tools from Markov decision theory and queuing theory to study the problem of scheduling and rate adaptation in a wireless downlink scenario.
