For the most part, we can provide everything you need to play football at Santana. There is only a few things that you need, but there are things we really recommend you get, and of course there are things we cannot wear. We will say this here, say it in team meetings and all throughout the season. ASK FIRST!! Please show us a picture, bring it to practice before you open it, email it, just ask! Coach Taylor is your go to on asking about things you can and cannot wear.
Things you need to get:
Cleats
Only rule - they must be of school colors. Black, white, purple, gold (not yellow) or gray/silver. If you are not sure, please ask coach Taylor before purchasing.
Practice cleats can be of any color
we do have used donated cleats from former players for anyone who needs a pair of cleats. Sizes are random, but we have a ton! If you need cleats, come check out what you can have for FREE!
SOCKS - 3 pairs ( black, white & Purple )
Things we highly recommend you purchase your own (or from us)
GIRDLE!!! - 7 pad is best
These can range in prices of $25 to $150 depending on Brand and where you buy them. We buy 7 pad girdles in bulk and sell them for $50, which is a competitive price compared to places like Dick's sporting goods and big5.
Mouthguard.
each player will get 1 free one from the program. If you would like something other than the basic one we give you please purchase your own.
Please note that there cannot be any plastic designs on mouthguards, alot of the pacifier style ones have a plastic plate or design and those are Illegal in games. See coach taylor for more specific examples or if you are not sure.
Other things you CAN buy and wear if you want:
RULE: Must be of school colors - Again, ask before you buy (show us a picture)
Gloves
arm sleeves must match uniform (black with black/purple and white with white)
calf sleeves - preferred to match uniforms (black/white)
leggings - must match uniform (black with black/purple and white with white)
Pink - October only, as we approach october more details of what each team will be allowed will be announced
generally arm sleeves, mouthguards, and gloves are ok. Again, ask before buying or opening.
VISORS - MUST BE 100% Clear!!! Absolutely NO tint is allowed. (the new oakley ones have a faint purple to them - they are illegal) per cif you may not wear anything but clear in a game & practice
SHOULDER PADS: you May buy or bring your own, but they must have the nfhs stamp on them and they must be approved by coach estes before you can wear them. They have to fit you properly. If they do not fit, you will not be allowed to wear them
THINGS WE DO NOT ALLOW:
Non team color items (if its blue or red or another color, you're not wearing it in a game)
Exception: we have a theme game - such as military night we can wear flag items or pink in October. When the time comes we will talk about what is ok. We will not be excessive.
Jewelry. Per CIF rule you cannot wear any jewelry to games.
please remove it and leave it in your locker or at home. we will have a case to place it in at games, but a lot of things get left behind. we recommend leaving it at home so it does not get lost.
COLORED OR TINTED VISORS. Visors must be 100% clear to wear in game and practice
bicep bands and tape worn as bicep bands. the thin band type bands that athletes like to wear on their arms and calves. These are ILLEGAL per CIF. We do not know why, but the refs will tell you to remove them. Only wristbands worn on wrists are allowed. (Examples of what CANNOT be worn below)
Eye black on white uniforms. Eye black can be worn with our black and purple uniforms ONLY IF it is a straight line or 2 lines. No blacking out your cheeks, no crosses, or any other designs. Absolutely no eye black is to be worn with our white uniforms. it stains and it is nearly impossible to get out.
For whatever reason, CIF says no Bicep bands.
This is not our rule, this is a CIF rule.
We have to tell you to take them off.
