Shamita Sanga, PhD
Principal Investigator
Designation: Scientist C at CSIR-IGIB, Assistant Professor, ACSIR
Shamita received her PhD in Genetics from National Institute of Biomedical Genomics, Kalyani, West Bengal, India, in 2024. Following her PhD, Shamita undertook a short postdoctoral stint at Boston Children's Hospital, affiliated with Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts. Thereafter, she returned to India to start her own lab as a Scientist at CSIR-IGIB, New Delhi, in April 2025. In her free time, Shamita enjoys playing the guitar to her favorite songs, reading books, and doodling in her sketchbook, a creative outlet that helps her relax, meditate, and stay grounded.
Rao Faheem
Project Associate
E-mail: raofaheemali05146@gmail.com
Rao completed his Master’s in Bioinformatics from Jamia Millia Islamia and joined Dr. Shamita Sanga’s lab at CSIR-IGIB as the first Project Associate in the group. He is currently working on a project titled “Deep Learning–Driven Genotype–Phenotype Mapping for Improved Dystonia Diagnosis and Stratification.” His work focuses on deep phenotyping of dystonia patients using clinical video data, where he analyzes movement patterns through deep learning approaches. Alongside this, he also works with patient-derived genomic data, including whole exome sequencing (WES) and long-read sequencing, aiming to bridge genotype-phenotype relationships and enhance diagnostic precision.
Outside the lab, Rao enjoys reading and occasionally writing shayari, which gives him a creative outlet beyond research. He is also passionate about cricket, both watching and playing, which helps him stay active and balanced.
