Fit & Fun Club
Fit & Fun Club
I taught students warm-up stretches, simple exercises, and dance moves from various musical genres such as Hip hop, Country, and Latin music. We also practiced yoga and meditation techniques for cooling down before heading to class! This club allowed students an opportunity to learn fun ways to get healthy through dance and exercise.
Drama Club
Drama Club is one of my passions! We performed the first school-wide play at WCES involving students in grades K-5. Students performed The Wizard of Oz, A Christmas Carol, Beauty and the Beast, and Wonder, a novel by R.J. Palacio. Students performed at The Clayton Center on a professional stage with props and sound!
Breakfast Club
The Breakfast Club started at Smithfield-Selma High with a group of student library assistants who found themselves building relationships with diverse people they normally wouldn't have talked to. It evolved from morning check-ins to breakfast and conversations about our differences and life.
Poetry Out Loud
Got students who like to rhyme?
Well now's the time!
Or maybe recitation is their love,
we can help them rise above!
I coached students interested in competing in the national Poetry Out Loud competition. Students were scored on accuracy, tone, inflection, and body language. We won 1st Place for original Sonnet, and had two flawless recitations!
Science Olympiad
I co-coached WCES's Science Olympiad Team. Science Olympiad is an academic competition in multiple areas relating to science.
Book Club
I partnered with the public library to host WCES's Book Club every month for grades 3-5. At Smithfield-Selma High School, I hosted a book club for students in grades 9-12.
Battle of the Books Team
Battle of the Books is offered to all 4th and 5th grade students that have a passion for reading. These students read roughly 15 books from Summer - February. After reading these books, students practice comprehension questions during team meetings to prepare for the county Battle of the Books Competition every March.
Morning News Broadcast
Managed 5th grade students who apply, interview, and work specific jobs to put together a daily morning news broadcast for the school. Students report on daily happenings in the school, celebrations, weather, and highlights!
