UFOs & UAPs

I was introduced to the topic of UFOs (now called UAPs: Unidentified Aerial/Anomalous  Phenomenon by some) by a teacher I had at Ventura College in  the mid 90s. He casually said something about aliens coming here as if it's just a known thing. After class I asked him about it and asked for a book to read on the subject.  I was pretty incredulous about the whole idea at this point, but my teacher just seemed so confident about the subject that I read the books he recommend.  There are more books than I want to type out, but the first one that really got my attention was The UFO Experience by J. Allen Hynek and Above Top Secret by Timothy Good, with later of those two simply blowing my mind (more on the book below).

This webpage that follow then is an overview of "the phenomenon" as I find it compelling and interesting. 

Presented are some of the better sources in my opinion. There is a lot of stuff out there, these are just some of my favorites.  I want to also say that pretty much everyone that reads books like above Top Secret and learns the details of The Nimitz Encounter and other quality evidence, rarely leave without serious questions and maybe some new ideas about a topic often easily dismissed.  Also, scroll down for general commentary and more.

Note out of habit and for ease or reading I have largely used the term "alien" rather than the jargon NHI (Non-Human Intelligence. Alien implies creatures from another planet, while NHI could also mean intelligences from another dimension, or the future, etc... many people into this topic believe the other beings are from another dimension, some even think they're from the future. So anytime I use alien I mean beings that could be any of those possibilities, although personally I think they are from other planets and/or other dimensions at this time and not the future or secretly have evolved on earth alongside us. 

Further down I present more about what I hope disclosure will bring as well as concerns I have as well. But one thing seems certain: when disclosure happens it will be the biggest news story in recorded human history with the most consequences: reframing many people's ideas about who we are, where we fit into the universe, and the very nature of reality and even religion. 

Thoughts, Commentary, and Answers to Questions (A good place to start for new curious and doubtful people looking to get a handle on all this):  

Over the years reading about UFOs (now being called UAPs by many) I have read and heard a lot of questions and arguments such as: how could the government keep this a secret so long? Why would aliens want to visit us and so on. I want to spend some time giving what I think are plausible answers to many of these questions. However, no matter if you think the answers or ideas are good or not, it doesn't change what Commander David Fravor and his wing person saw while also verified by independent radar, it doesn't change all the sightings and seemingly impossible maneuvers, it doesn't change the leaks and spills from whistleblowers, including Congressional Testimony under oath. Just because we might not understand a phenomenon, doesn't mean it isn't happening.  Monkeys in the jungle probably can't comprehend what humans are walking around doing, let's say  on an ecological survey, but it doesn't change that we are there with our and have reasons and technology the monkeys could never even guess at or comprehend: maybe we're the monkeys?

So here's some of the stuff I hear a lot and my answers

"I believe in aliens too, of course they exist. The universe is too big for there not to be other life out there." While this isn't a qustion I want to get it out of the way,  that I, and others, believe there is eveidenc that there some type of Non-Human Intelligence "out there" that has been coming here.  Furthermore, that elements within some of the world's governments know this as well, and have possession of physical evidence of this claim in the form of craft and bodies.  

"There's no way to go faster than the speed of light, aliens could never come here.. it's too far."  Answer: There was a time when people thought flying was only for birds, and the technology of today would be complete magic to someone from 2000 or even fewer years ago.  An alien society could easily be thousands or even millions of years ahead of us technologically and it's ability to travel would be as mystical and impossible to us today as a helicopter would have been to the Egyptians, It's not like we broke the laws of physics in the last 2000 years when we developed helicoptors or chemical rockets, lasers, and the internet, we just understand them better and have newer and more complete ideas,  about science, and technology and how to work with them. Quantum stuff is a good example. Entanglement and non-locality are mind bending and don't make sense within the context of our day-to-day observations, but it doesn't change the data. It's somewhat arrogant to think that we KNOW what can and can't be done with physics and technology.  This argument about science and technology covers any of the other questions people might skeptically ask such as, "how could any craft going that fast and doing such maneuvers not crush the pilots?" or "how could they get that much energy and store it?"  

"If their so advanced, why do their ships crash?" If people from 2,000 years ago saw our planes and helicopters they would be miraculous to them: we would be like Gods with our planes, cell phones, guns, etc... But all of these things can malfunction and planes certainly crash. Perhaps it's simply the same. Maybe our atmosphere is very challenging for them to fly in? We can only guess why they might crash, but we do know even our best technology malfunctions as we continue to push the boundaries of what's possible. Why would they be any different? 

"Why do they look the the aliens from movies and T.V.?" That idea of the "Greys," the short little aliens with the big heads and eyes, mostly came into prominence from the account of Betty and Barney Hill, a couple who claimed they were abducted by aliens in 1961, and subsequet encounters later.  So perhaps the "crazy stories" people told about how aliens looked, were actually the truth (at least most of the time) and then Hollywood took off with it? Also, they may look like us because evolution has found bipedal creatures in a humanoid form as being the most successful form for an intelligent species. If Deer in North America could talk they might wonder why so many other animals look like them if they went to Africa: gazelle, ibex,  impala, etc... However, some people think we look like them because they influenced our evolution or even "seeded" us here: werid stuff. Finally, quite a few UFO researchers think they are clones, or some type of biological robot.

"The government could never keep secrets like this for this long (there would be leaks)." They haven't kept it secret, there's been a bunch of leaks. This is why there a bunch of UFO books with reports from former government officials saying what they saw or know. There are released documents, and anonymous and open reporting.  Of course there are a bunch of UFO books and people attracted to the phenomenon who are "out there" and make the whole thing look bad and get a lot of attention for their bizarre claims, beliefs and activity, but that's true for any group.: there are both Republicans and Democrats that are quite fringe and get an outsized amount of attention and make the other side think these extremists represent the party. They same is true for religions and other groups as well. Back the the point. There are leakers, and released information, and former Intelligence people who have testified under oath to Congress, but the "crazy people" make the whole things look silly and they get too much attention. Also, I think it's pretty clear there has been a culture of disinformation and suppression among the military intelligence community at various levels to suppress reporting's and disclosure. Still, there have been leaks.  Check out the books I recommend further below. 

"Why would aliens want to visit us? Where so silly/unevolved/violent/etc...?" Any species that can travel interstellar distances is probably very scientific. We have scientists that spend their whole careers looking at things like sea sponges, or types of flies. I would think they would find us and our planet full of biodiversity interesting, at least a subsection of them. This brings us a possible answer to the next question I hear...

"Why wouldn't they just announce their presence?" It could be that they know the best way to study us is by not showing themselves. In science "The Hawthorne Effect" (or "Reactivity") is when the presence of researchers influence their study.  It could be that to better study what we are really like, they don't want to make contact. It could be they are not even very interested in us: maybe they are more interested in our bacteria, or animal life, etc... I don't announce myself to the bugs in my backyard when I walk out there to do something, and maybe that's how they see us, not worthy of open contact. Some have suggested that to announce their presence they would end up giving us tech (in a direct or round about way) that would be too dangerous for us to have given our nature.  Some have suggested they come to our planet to "fuel up" using sea water for hydrogen. Maybe it's something like that, they just fly in to get stuff and leave? Again, we may now know the answer: but it's doesn't change the data. 

"Why hasn't NASA, etc... seen them yet?" Space is really big and we've seen very little of it. So far we don't have the resolution to see planets outside our solar system very well. Even more, the edge of our galaxy is 950,000 light years way. So any signal sent out that we could detect from the edge with our technology, for example, would have to be at least 950,000 years old. Maybe they "sent" signals that haven't gotten to us, but in the following years have found ways to make wormhole or gravity drive engines.  Speaking of gravity drives many people think this is the means "they" use to travel and they make pockets of gravity that bend space time and that bend in space time, or a "gravity bubble" distorts detection even naked eye or camera recordings such that they will remain undetected for blurry. This tech isn't that far fetched and many people are thinking they use a sort of Alcubierre drive, which is a real concept that could be built, we just don't have the tech to create, harness, or direct the energy required, maybe they do? Regardless, it doesn't seem that that their technology requires them to straight line travel through space to our planet. This answer now moves on to the answer for the first question: maybe it's simply tech we don't understand, like some type of cloaking tech, jump drive, etc...? Regardless, we see them here. Just because we don't see them travel in space, doesn't disqualify the sightings by qualified people and the leaked knowledge.  And finally, there are many who think that higher, secretive levels of NASA, have scrubbed images in the past to cover-up UFOs, perhaps there's something to that?

Why haven't more scientist been exposed to the evidence and come to the same conclusion that we're being visited? Scientist have limited time and money to research everything and they also have reputations and egos to protect, especially in competitive university settings where reputation and results gets funding and job security. This subject is fringe and the results are not easy to come by, nor are there products or other innovations steaming from UFO/UAP research. Furthermore, there have been many times in history where the current scientific model has been challenged, and while sometimes those challengers are quacks (Perpetual Motion Machines, Cold Fusion, Phrenology,  and more), there have been other times where giant breakthroughs were derided as nonsense by scientists who were taught a more traditional belief and built a  working model of reality on it, only for us to find later that indeed the new ideas, shocking as they may be, are true. The heliocentric model of the solar system,  Sunspots, Planetary Motion, Continental Drift, Germ Theory of Disease, The age of Earth, Meteorites, What Causes Ulcers, and Neuroplasticity are examples of times when the few who dared assert these now accepted views were literally laughed at in many cases and in others evidence was just thrown out as nonsense.  The UFO/UAP phenomenon could very well be yet another time in human history many top scientists have been wrong and THE VAST majority just weren't even looking to begin with.

"Why are aliens only seen by Americans?" "Why do UFOs only show up in America?" UFOs are seen all over the world. In America, we mostly hear only about domestic sightings or sightings by our military. However, UFO sightings are distributed all over the world by both citizens, and foreign militaries. Some of the most famous events such as the Ariel School incident in Zimbabwe, the Varginha UFO incident in Brazil, the Belgian UFO wave, and the Rendlesham Forrest Incident in the UK are some of the most prominent cases in the history of UFO studies. 

"Will they destroy us," "Are they dangerous?" (or some version of fearful stuff) If they wanted to  wipe us out they already  surly could have. However, for them to get so advanced and still be alive suggests they have something of a peaceful nature or peaceful desires (at least with themselves). Otherwise the technology they have would probably have been used at one point to wipe themselves out (as we might do to ourselves). However, they could be quite malevolent to us and/or see us as without any semblance of what we would call morality or value. Maybe they think of us just as resource: they way we've thought of other sentient, but less intelligent animals such as livestock? Nonetheless, if they wanted to simply wipe us out, unless they're waiting for something, they almost certainly already could have.  

"They seem to be interested in our nuclear weapons, isn't that a warning they're scouting our ability to defend ourselves. Like they're planning an invasion?" It's true they seem particularly interested in our nuclear weapons, but also our reactors. They also have turned nukes on and off in different areas. They also seem to be very active in observing war zones, all the way back at least to the "Foo Fighters" or World War 2.  However, despite all that, they haven't done anything clearly aggressive and with their tech. They could probably destroy us from space or maybe with an engineered bioweapon or something we can't even imagine as haven't done any of those things seems to indicate they are not overtly hostile. 

"Are they good or bad."  I already covered some of this in here, and there are more thoughts below. Nevertheless, it might be like asking are people good or bad? Some are more bad, some are more good, and it depends who's asking: a loved pet, or a factory farmed veal calf? So far they seem pretty hands off as far as we can tell? Furthermore, we might be dealing with more than once group of Non-Human Intelligences and they might have different views on humanity: just like different groups of humans have been more brutal and oppressive to others, and other groups more kind and helpful. 

"If elements of the government suspect or know that non-human intelligence has visited us, why wouldn't they tell us?" This one has a variety of possible answers. The main answer is, we don't know why for sure, but it doesn't change the data. We don't have to know someone's motives to know they are doing it. People often wonder things like "why would that guy do that?" or "why did he not like me?" and all types of other situations in which we simply don't know the reason a person, or a group did something, and we can only take guesses. I will present in the next section, "Best Guesses," based on what some researchers have said and my own guesses as well.

"Are they angels or demons?" People throughout history have looked to the unknown and tried to categorize it into fitting religious or superstitious ideas they've already developed. For example disease, in the past, was often seen as an evil or curses, but later we found out it was bacteria and viruses. Many Europeans thought witches were spreading the black plague and  later found that, also, was a bacteria, and the people that they thought were witches were often just social outcast woman. When Europeans first came to the Americas some of them thought the natives were less than human or didn't have souls, something that would be repeated in other regions of the world. More , the Northern Lights were seen to some as omens, and eclipses and comets as signs of divine anger. Finally, in a world in which no knowledge of neurology was present and people still used the divine and the damned to explain many things, people often thought schizophrenics were possessed.  Now we give them drugs that, while not perfect, often have positive effects The point is it's not safe to jump to conclusions not supported by the evidence we have so far. That evidence only seems to show that they are a different type of intelligence that has technology we don't understand. 

"Where are they from?" Don't know. We might be dealing with more than one group of NHI (Non-Human Intelligence) and they could be from different places. Some scientist even think they could be from different dimensions, at least some of them.  Some people even think they're from the future, or an alternative earth: wild. 

Best Guesses And Bigger Picture Ideas From Years of Reading/Researching and thinking about UFO Stuff

Anytime you think about UFOs and talk to someone there seems to be layers. For example the first layer is the concept that could there be life elsewhere in the universe, most people are with you at this step.  The next steep is agreeing that it could be intelligent. Often most people concede this right away as well. Next, is to establish there are indeed Unidentified Fly Objects (or Unidentified Aerial/Anomalous Phenomena) UFOs or UAPs. This is also pretty clear. After that is probably to demonstrate that the witnesses in quite a few cases (read hundreds) are highly qualified, sometimes have seemingly nothing to gain (and sometimes clearly things to lose: mostly military here), and  that in many instances there are multiple witnesses  and/or radar or other technical readings of such objects. That these witnesses would not be easily mistaken by the glare off a windshield, the planet Venus, a plane, etc... The next step is looking at what they see: metallic appearing objects with no obvious signs of propulsion, no wings, no control surfaces, and can perform maneuvers that nothing anyone has ever seen a known technology able to do by vast margins (example going from 0 to Mach 2 in under a second, or making a 90 right turns while traveling at such speed). Furthermore, they are clearly intelligently controlled. Finally, they resemble nothing any country has ever been shown to have on the ground, in the air or anywhere. Technology can move pretty quick, but no other country could have developed something like this. There have even been sightings further back in history, before humans even had planes.  After this step the next part is considering that it's an off-world intelligence. And to keep the options open that could mean: interstellar, trans -dimensional, or some such thing we couldn't even being to imagine. I am pretty much 99% here. 

The next steps are reserved generally for UFO enthusiasts, people who like to listen the UFO people speak, conspiracy junkies, and the maybe an increasing number of open minded (some of which, admittedly are too open-minded) people who are reading more recent articles and watching more recent videos from below. I would say knowing which one of those a person is, or you yourself are, depends on how much knowledge has been accumulated and how well they can synthesize it all. So, the next step is believing part of our government (probably in conjunction with some private industry) knows Aliens (whatever they are) have been coming here.  The  book "Above Top Secret" has good stuff on this. But you can also look to  David Grucsh, Christopher Mellon, Lue Elizondo,   the book "UFOs: Generals, Pilots, and Government Officials Go on the Record," the whole story about the Roswell incident, Bob Lazar's story, Stanford Professor Garry Nolan, Nobel Prize Nominee Dr. Hal Puthoff, Dr. Eric Davis, who testified we have recovered materials to Congress, and Ret. Rear Admiral and Ph.D. Oceanographer Timothy Gallaudet who believes elements of the government know we're not alone as well as Colonel Karl E. Nell  .. If only 1 of these people or incidents is accurate it means that elements of the government know aliens exist and probably they have recovered materials and or craft. Also, if only 1 of these people are correct, it probably means that others are, to some extent, also correct: a type of convergence of people saying similar things. An interesting, example of this is that both Former Canadian Minster of National Defense Paul Hellyer and Retired brigadier general from Israeli, Haim Eshed, who was also the former chair of the Space Committee, a professor of aeronautics and astronautics and winner of the highest civilians honors you can get in Israel (the Chief of Staff Citation and the Israel Defense Prize), both who have come out and talked about UFOs and a "Galactic Federation" of Aliens. If only 1 highly decorated and "in-the-know" person mentioned the Galactic Federation it might seem they're losing their mind, but there are two guys doing so. This point about convergence of claims is important, and I am going to get to that, in particular with the case of Bob Lazar in the next paragraph. If you're feeling overwhelmed by all these names, I would start with Lue Elizondo, Christopher Mellon, and Eric Davis' testimony. I am 90% sure that elements in our government know for sure there is an non-terrestrial intelligence visiting us and that they have crafts and/or parts of their crafts in their possession. 

About Convergence and Bob Lazar. Lazar came out in 1989 and claimed to have worked at a base near Area 51 called S-4. While there he said he was briefed a little on the program but was then given his job trying to understand and reverse engineer the propulsion mechanism of recovered UFOs, of which he said there were many. He claimed he was told the aliens came from Zeta Reticuli, that they used an element number 115 (which wasn't on the period table at that time), that the aliens used craft that use a "gravity drive" to bend space-time to travel very very fast without the penalties of inertia. He claimed they have gravity emitters on the bottom of the craft and that when they really want to go fast they travel on their side. Over 20 years late we now have videos of saucers from all over the world rotating onto their side while flying high and/or fast (though not always), Element 115 has since been made (for a very short period of time), though Lazar says it's not the isotope the aliens used, and other whistleblowers have said we have worked to try to reserve engineer the multiple craft we have. I find it unlikely that as videos from around the world have come out (and of course some videos could be and are fake) they all thought to align their fakes with Lazar and show disks traveling on their side (the "Gimbal" video is a good example of this, but there's other videos as well). I am trying to say that I don't think people all over the world knew what Lazar said about how the craft fly and tailored their videos to match. Lazar has also passed multiple lie detector tests about his claims. There is stuff to doubt about Lazar and his life hasn't been perfect, but his story is consistent and more and more is being collaborated in a round about way. This is just one example, not the best even, but a simple one to relay here about the concept of convergence of evidence. 

There are other places to go if you want to speculate further: (and weirder) there are the Cattle Mutilations, Crop Circles, the ideas of being visited by different, not just one, species (and the fact they all seem to speak to us telepathically), alien abductions (thought this isn't as weird to most UFO folks especially since the -now deceased -head of the Harvard Department of Psychiatry, John Mack believed in it after interviewing many people claiming to have been abducted first as a skeptic), and other elements of the phenomena that are even more fringe of which I just notice and move on. 

Next, I want to relate some ideas about why elements and government are not being transparent with what they know. I will give a range of theories and guesses people have made from some that seem "more" reasonable, to some that seem quite out there. 1: The government(s) are scared of mass panic and society collapse. They are the best interest of civilization in mind and just want us to maybe slowly find out, if at all. Some people think this slow revel of the truth is happening right now. An extra thing to mention is that some UFO people think that perhaps some of the people don't want to let out the truth because they have been willfully hiding something that can get them into trouble with congress and the government and the people as it wasn't their info to hide. 2: The government is trying to horde the technology for the military. Whistleblower, David Grusch says there is an "arms race" between the U.S. and allies,  vs. China, and Russia to see who can figure out the technology first. Letting it out would end up causing citizens to demand full transparency and the monopolization of the technology would no longer be possible. 3: Another take on this is held by UFO researcher, Dr. Steven Greer. He thinks the governments don't want the technology to get into the hands of regular people as we would then have virtually free and unlimited energy and the big companies that run the government suppress the technology for the reasons of profit and control. 4: Another reason is that aliens have been abducting people and once people find out that aliens are real, it won't be a big step to figure out abductions are real too and that the governments not only knew this was going on, but can do nothing to stop it and chaos, and fear will reign. Some people (this if far out there) think there has been an agreement with the aliens to trade elements of their technology with us with us allowing them to adduct a certain number of people per year or whatever. Even further "out there", some think the aliens haven't held up their end of the deal. Off the top of my head those are the main guesses/theories/conspiracies about why the government(s) haven't been transparent with citizens that elements within them know that, indeed, aliens (non-human intelligence of some sort at least) has been visiting. Of course there is always the idea that the government is so disorganized they really don't know what they themselves are up to or how to do it release information or even know what they know.....? 

Another interesting, and maybe bigger question, might be: why haven't the aliens openly contacted us? There are different theories about this, not surprisingly, and one idea is simply they see us in the same way we see plants or ants (fill in your own metaphor). They study us or just pass through and have no interest interacting with us at large and maybe know that if we know about them at large it will ruin their study Maybe we'll just make a hassle for them. The idea of us being studies is referred to as the "Zoo Hypothesis," with some people even thinking they created us through an enhanced evolutionary process. However, some people would argue that they have shown themselves enough and purposely and that they are slowing acclimating us to their existence, as currently we are not ready: technologically, spiritually, politically, etc... Some people have suggested they are indeed interested in life, but all life equally and that they are here to foster the thriving of life and monitoring it, but not especially in regards to us. Finally, some people think there is a nefarious takeover planned by them or some such other thing and they are manipulating inner elements of governments and world leaders, even our DNA, to get whatever they are wanting, but we don't know what that might be. However, more and more people are thinking the aliens (or NHI "Non-Human Intelligences") are the ones in control. 

Now for some for some other far out stuff:

 One is that there, more and more, looks like there could be 4 or more alien species visiting us with the main groups being the Greys (which seems to have more than just one type), the "Tall Whites," the Reptilian, and the Mantis type. Both the Reptilians and the Mantid are only supposedly have a passing resemblance to looking like reptiles and praying mantis, and are not considered actually reptiles or insects. Interestingly the Mantis being seem to be in charge of the greys whenever the two are seen together.  Some abductees even claim to have seen all the different types together.  (see further down in the "articles" section for more information on the mantis types in two articles I have links to)

Many abductees also report activities related to a hybrid program in which alien and human DNA is being mixed in ways to create hybrid beings. This claim is so common it's hard to overlook in the world of abduction experiences. If it is true: we can only guess why they are doing that: wanting to coexist with us, scientific curiosity, evolving us, getting ready for a take-over so other? 

Another far out idea is that maybe some or all of these beings are interdimensional, rather and from just another planet. The idea that is that they can come here, or even create creatures that can. That there is some "higher dimension" they are from, which is why they seem to phase in and out.  Some people think they are caretakers of our life on earth as they watch us grow or maybe even guardians keeping the universe safe from us, and maybe us safe from us as we develop more technology. 

All of these beings communicate, in every single story, with telepathy. This raises some profound questions about the nature of consciousness and of simply what we don't understand yet about the universe. There are many people who don't even study UFOs who are postulating that consciousness is a quantum field and that us individuals are like radios turned into one station, the you station so to speak. That with practice, or even with drugs, or meditation, we can transcend/leave our bodies and rejoin the field, or the source. Near Death Experiencers seem to all relate that they were in contact with something bigger, something they were somewhat part of, when they were "dead" and out of their bodies. And some people taking powerful hallucigens like DMT have seen the Mantis types that some abductees say they've seen.  Also, on this point, remote viewing is getting more traction in the UFO community with many people referencing CIAs project StarGate. Some remote viewers have even said to remote viewed alien bases with humans and aliens working together: one is supposed to have been in Mt. Hayes in Alaska. Of note on this point, there is a famous remote viewer and out-of-body experiencer, Robert "Bob" Monroe  who worked with the CIA and later started the "Monroe Institute," that after years of work/exploration as a psychic suspected that humans were being "mined" for psychic/emotional energy he called "loosh" which could be harvested from any type of strong emotions, with the strongest being love. 

Finally, there are some people who have claimed that these beings are connected to what we would call "the afterlife" and spirituality, but not in the sense they are angels and demons, in that people believing in that concept have been wrong and it's different from that and probably more complex.  

For information relating to these developments I would look to the Richard Dolan, UAPGerb, Jacques Vallee, Clifford Stone, David Grush,  but there are many more. I will try to always be adding stuff here and there: but a lof of stuff is happening very quickly. Maybe we're being prepared? 

What Might Disclosure Bring: Hopes and Fears

Someday if any of the above stuff is true, there might be disclosure from the powers that be that indeed Non-Human Intelligence has been visiting us. Maybe this revelation will be on their own initiative, maybe forced by public demand, maybe it will be the aliens that revel themselves. In any instance of world-wide realization of Non-Human Intelligence (alien) life existing there are various hopes and fears that many people, including myself, have.  Why should some people in government have the right to know the details of if we're alone or not but the rest of us can't?  Reality shouldn't be classified. 

In the past I have been optimistic about society learning about the existence of aliens. My thoughts have been that it would make us feel more like brothers and sisters and as one on our planet. It would give us insight into the nature of reality, the universe and settle and reframe many philosophical and religious debates. I have hoped it would make us a more scientific, and a less dogmatically religious and nationalistic people.  Furthermore, I would hope it would make us more hopeful for a peaceful future as the aliens clearly must have found a way to live longer than we've been around and with much greater technology without blowing themselves up or some other human induced doomsday. Finally, it might be that they share with us technology that helps us live better, and maybe is a catalyst for social reforms that allow us to live better (better ways to govern, learn, and otherwise organize society).  In the end, even if things go well overall, there will be some of the issues from below at levels that significantly impact society. 

There is a term that is being used more recently called "Catastrophic Disclosure," that conveys many concerns and fears about the world-wide knowledge of aliens coming to light.  One of these concerns is a phenomenal distrust of government due to decades or withholding information and extra-legal actions on their part resulting in government being either ineffective, or in attempt to keep order, overreaching.  There is the fear that too big of a critical mass of people would turn to fear and push the government to militarize at all costs with social services and freedoms falling by the wayside.; even worse might be actively trying to war on aliens, that far outpace us technologically, such that we create or escalate tensions or hostilities. Another concern is the retreat of  too many people to fanatical interpretations of religion that may at the least set society back, or possibly be disruptive through wars and terror.  Of course, the worst thing would be if there is some information released that cause devastating reactions from or about the aliens themselves, but that's pretty out there.  An example of this is the abduction phenomenon. If it comes out that yes, there are aliens, but they abduct us with what we would say are bad intentions abducting us at will, deceiving us at will, and simply not caring. If people are being abducted, which I think they are, I hope it's for a greater good, but that oftentimes seems a stretch.  Finally, there will be the general shock that we are not even close to the most intelligent creatures, and maybe some of the stuff we will learn will upend people's beliefs such that there will be mass anxiety, fear, and panic. 

Finally, to sum up reasons why some people in this field think they're has not yet been disclosure, assuming that we are being visited by NHI are mostly one or a combo of the following with variations on these themes as well:

1) National Security: we want to try to keep the knowledge, and especially the tech, to ourselves.  And perhaps we want to keep the tech and science out of the hands of bad actors.

2) We simply have no plan, or maybe a unified plan on how to proceed with disclosure that will be safe for the people and/or the government.

3) Fear of societal disruption with market collapses, ontological shock, religious chaos, and death.

4) The coverup needs to be perpetuated because of the dark secrets that have been found out about the nature of reality or the NHI presence, or perhaps the illegality of the funding, extra-judicial killings, intimidation of witnesses, or other actions by the government.

5) Agreements with NHI to keep the coverup going with a variety of different incentives possible.

6) Simply not a priority.

There are many things that give the notion of belief in UFOs a bad name. However, some are easier to detect than others. It's easy to see some stuff on YouTube as sensationalistic, but other people and things are much harder unless you have back ground knowledge it would be easy to think they are a good, reputable source.  Note: some people would put Bob Lazar in this category.
