Volunteering Venture
The north-east coast of Bangladesh was severely affected by a disastrous flood induced by heavy rainfall during the rainy season of 2022. The residents of that area, particularly the villagers who live in the low land lost their homes, crops, and livestock. They were forced to seek refuge in adjacent colleges and schools, where temporary shelter facilities had been set up to assist them. However, they lacked food, medicine, minerals, and clothes. In that emergency circumstance, we stepped up and founded a volunteer platform in my community with the help of ex-students from my high school. This was a self-funded venture; our efforts were supported through self-sufficiency subscriptions. We provided emergency assistance, dry meals, daily supplies, minerals, and warm clothes to the victims of our neighboring communities.
Subsequently, we extended our assistance to underprivileged schoolchildren in our locality. In December 2022, we gave them paper, pens, pencils, and other study supplies, as well as some money in order to encourage them to continue their study. We also assisted the elderly, who did not have any youthful and earning members in their households, in meeting their daily necessities. In addition, we provided some wheelchairs to handicapped promising children to help them move and live more comfortably.
The platform's main strength is its youth volunteers. The elder members with decent earnings usually contribute to the finances, while the younger members carry out the projects on the ground. It is a comprehensive teamwork model. We are delighted to continue and broaden our humanitarian work. It's a self-satisfying endeavor to give back to the society that once facilitated our grooming.
