Who We Are
All members of the Auxiliary Team will be asked to contribute in visual capacities that enhance the overall performance and presentation of the ensemble. This group is designed to be flexible and adaptable, allowing performers with diverse movement and performance backgrounds to contribute meaningfully to the marching band experience. Responsibilities may include equipment work (such as flags, rifles or sabres), visual staging elements, coordinated movement, and other performance elements as determined by the needs of the production and the Director of Bands. Opportunities on this team exist for performers with experience in dance, baton, flag, and related visual arts.
The Auxiliary Team is part of the Samford Marching Band and is not a competitive dance team. Its purpose is to support the visual identity of the marching band and to provide students with an opportunity to participate in a collaborative, performance-focused ensemble. This opportunity comes with a $2000 Fall Scholarship. Students who would like to also perform on a band instrument for the basketball pep band in the Spring, can earn an additional $2000 in scholarship. No experience is necessary.
Interview
Complete a short interview with the judging panel before your solo performance where you will discuss your background, goals, and interests in the team as well as answer any questions the judges may have for you. We want to get to know you, not just see you perform!
Solo Routine Performance
Perform a routine (2.5 minutes MAX) to music of your choice. This routine can include the use of a flag, rifle, streamers, or sabre (or any combination of the three), and should showcase diverse movements, equipment proficiency, and performance quality. This routine should be prepared in advance of auditions. Members of the Auxiliary Team should be able to show a strong level of dance technique, advanced spins, tosses, catches, and both body and equipment control.
When will I find out if I make the Auxiliary Team?
The Auxiliary Team will be announced via email within one week of auditions. The email will indicate any additional steps you may need to take to accept the invitation to membership.
What is the attire and hair/makeup guidelines for auditions?
Attire for the entire three-part audition process should be an appropriately-fitted one- or two-piece dance costume of your choice, nude tights matching skin tone, and nude jazz shoes. You are welcome to bring a coverup or warmup to wear overtop when you are not performing or interviewing.
Participants should be in performance-ready makeup and hair for the entirety of the audition process. For makeup, strive for a 'Game Day' makeup look that includes blush and a red lip at minimum. For a performance-ready hairstyle, hair should be styled with majority of hair down. You can achieve this look by wearing hair fully down and teased out of face or creating a half-up/half-down hairstyle. Note: Please do not wear hair in a ponytail or a bun.
