My concentration in clinical nurse leadership has included development of strategies to improve quality of care in a variety of settings. I have utilized leadership strategies to develop ideas for use of technology to more easily integrate evidence-based practices and to improve documentation. I have also used electronic health record databases to perform chart reviews and other methods of data collection and analysis to identify patterns and care gaps.
My clinical experiences have helped me understand the necessity of effective collaboration with care providers and patients. I have developed effective communication and escalation strategies and continue to learn more each day. I have become aware of my power as a nurse to advocate for what I know is right and to facilitate safe, patient-centered care.
This paper describes how the clinical nurse leader (CNL) can catalyze a quality improvement initiative to improve patient outcomes by gaining buy-in from stakeholders and facilitating multidisciplinary teamwork and communication. The CNL’s use of innovative education strategies and evidence-based change models builds a foundation for sustainable change, as described in this paper.
In this paper, information about a unit's microsystem and macrosystem data was gathered using patient charts and information databases. Technology has become a large part of nursing practice and I have become familiar with many databases, applications, and functions that improve patient safety and care delivery. Use of Lexi-Comp and MicroMedex has helped improve my literacy in pharmacology and pharmacokinetics. The paper here identifies a specific gap in care and proposes team-based changes to practice to improve patient outcomes.
For this paper, I performed a critical appraisal of three peer-reviewed research articles to determine their reliability, validity, and importance to the problem described. This included an analysis of design, study method, sample, setting, variables, outcome measures, outcome measures, important findings, and level of evidence. The paper summarizes the current literature and identifies gaps in available research.
Throughout my education and career I have learned a variety of strategies to facilitate sustainable changes. I have become more aware of the value of professional organizations for staying updated on current literature, practice guidelines, and conversations relevant to my profession.
