Visit by the Women’s International Group (WIG), carried out in collaboration with the NGO Samaki Kampot, as part of the educational development program with Boeung Preah Primary School
On Monday, June 23, 2025, at Boeung Preah Primary School, located in Andoung Chimean village, Kampong Kraeng commune, Teuk Chhou district, Kampot province, the team from the Women’s International Group (WIG) visited the site to observe various activities at the school, including: remedial teaching support for students with learning difficulties; landfilling work at the back of Boeung Preah Primary School in preparation for the construction of a new school building; the provision of books that students can borrow and take home to read; and the repair of student desks, some of which have broken legs or damaged metal frames (metal-legged desks). These actions aim to support the school in continuing its activities through the end of 2025 and beyond, into 2026.
What particularly caught the association’s attention were the community participation initiatives involving around 200 families, such as: contributing to the landfilling of low-lying areas to prepare for the new school building; helping fund additional teachers to support students with learning difficulties; participating in annual school activity information meetings; encouraging children to borrow books from the school to read at home, and more.
The school principal and Samaki Kampot express their gratitude to Women’s International Group for this mission, and I wish them continued success and good health.
Committee Activities: Meeting to Approve Requests from Underprivileged Families
First meeting of 2025
On Friday, June 27, 2025, at 9:00 a.m., a meeting was held at the Les Manguiers Guesthouse to review the requests submitted to Samaki by underprivileged families seeking to improve their living conditions. The committee was composed of members of the Mak Prang and Kampong Kreng commune councils, the religious leader of Boeung Preah Pagoda, Mr. Jean-Yves Dekeister, as well as the Samaki team — a total of 10 participants.
During this session, five self-help associations presented a total of 26 proposals for review and approval, broken down as follows:
1.proposals for housing work (construction of toilets, rehabilitation of wells, and home renovation)
2.proposals for supplies and food (all five applicants were widows over 80 years old requesting rice)
3.proposals for agriculture (vegetable planting, purchase of cow manure, planting of fruit trees, and purchase of a water pump)
4.proposals for income-generating activities (fish stew preparation, cake making, and stitching palm leaves for sale)
The total budget required amounted to 4,890,000 riels. The families themselves contributed 1,170,000 riels, and the remaining amount of 3,720,000 riels was requested and subsequently approved.
On behalf of the NGO Samaki, we express our heartfelt thanks to the two commune councils and to the religious leader of Boeung Preah Pagoda for their presence and participation in this meeting.

The savings program in primary and lower secondary schools is an initiative of the Community Solidarity Support Organization. Its goal is to teach students how to save money, avoid unnecessary spending, and build good habits for the future.
Each year, during a period of nine months, every student can save at least 2,000 riels each month. They receive bonus interest: 2% for savings under 150,000 riels, and 0.4% for the amount above 150,000 riels.
This interest comes from the Solidarity Organization and some partner microfinance institutions.
At the end of the school year, students are happy to receive their savings together with the bonus interest. The money they save is usually used to support their studies in the next school year.
Many thanks to Juliette Hudina, a law student from France, who has volunteered with Samaki Kampot Organization over the past three months. We wish her good health and all the best for the future.
Lending storybooks and different kinds of tales to students so they can take them home and read is one of the main ideas of the Organization for the Support of Solidarity in Local Communities.
This program helps students gain more knowledge, remember stories better, improve their reading skills, and develop the habit of reading regularly.
Teachers from five partner schools ; Boeung Preah, Chakrey Teang, Rong Chak, Kampong Kreang, and Wat Poth, in Tuek Chhou District, Kampot Province, work together with volunteers from the Samaki Organization to run a book loan system.
Students can borrow books from their school, take them home to read, and bring them back the next week. This activity happens every week.
At the end of each month, class teachers count how many books each student has borrowed, send the report to the school principal for checking, and then share a copy with the Samaki Organization.
By reading regularly, students remember stories better, read more easily, and enjoy reading more, which also helps their teachers in class.
The Samaki Organization keeps supporting and expanding this program with more schools to help students build a better educational future.
