This project was created as a result of the 2022 Salzburg Academy on Media and Global Change. Our group worked together to tackle the problem of fake news and the spread of misinformation during the pandemic and how to tackle media moving forward. We decided to target younger children (ages 13-15) and teach them best practices for source checking. At this age, the children are usually joining social media, becoming more aware of the internet, and interacting with news on a small level.
Misinformation on social media is a problem. From TikToks to Instagram memes, young teens are surrounded by misinformation, but few know how to tackle it. This interactive lesson will teach them how to implement best practices when sharing information on social media. Below are resources to help teachers use the interactive experience and its lessons in the classroom.
