The culinary arts education location in north central West Virginia.
The Certificate of Applied Science in Food Service Management – Culinary Arts duplicates the 1st semester of the A.A.S. degree option in the same field but provides a more compressed skill set option in the 2nd semester. Students successfully completing the C.A.S. and one year of industry experience are eligible to become Certified Culinarians (CC) through the American Culinary Federation, www.acfchefs.org. Opportunities exist for entry-level positions in food preparation and service in hotels, restaurants, catering operations, resorts, and institutions. Credits earned in the certificate program may be applied to the A.A.S. in Food Service Management – Culinary Arts specialization.
Chef Sara Feltz resides in Fairmont with her husband Jimmy, and kids, Preslynn and Carmine. She has a passion for Culinary Arts and teaching. She is also a former student of Pierpont and is a certified chef in both Culinary and Baking & Pastry Arts. She also competed on the Culinary Competition Team and served as the Team Captain. Chef Sara has worked at many restaurants and bakeries in the area. Previously, she ran a local restaurant, Backwoods at the Belmont, before joining the team at Pierpont. When operating her restaurant, Chef proudly sponsored internship students from Pierpont to work with her and her team. Most recently, Chef Sara completed a long-time career goal, by earning her title as Certified Executive Chef (through the American Culinary Federation.)
