Main tasks:
to evaluate the effects of marine gateway reconfigurations on hydrology, biogeochemistry, marine and terrestrial biota, global climate, thermohaline circulation.
to test the hypothesis that basin restriction and salt giant formation impact climate and life in specific, predictable ways regardless of the temporal and spatial setting.
to quantify the impacts of each salt giant in a uniform way, and then identify similarities and differences both in terms of the impacts themselves as well as of the mechanisms controlling them.
