Super Awkward Lizard is/was/will be an absolutely fucking weird nintendocore band from Omsk, Russia.
The band was created by Igor Kirgintsev from pieces of his first musical project "IKilledTheSnowGoons". This project was much fucking weirder. Igor used stock FL Studio plugins, wrote chaotic atonal cybergrind getting inspired by old MySpace musicians and mixed it all with the meowing of his cat Patrick. This quickly became extremely stupid, so Igor decided to create a new project despite the lack of bandmates. Well, that's how an super awkward lizard was born.
Under a new name, Igor released his debut album "Gore For Fantasy" and, to be honest, it was absolutely god damn horrible. The material sounded extremely rough, lo-fi, minimalistic and was close to being called outsider music. But, surprisingly, people loved this album for its sincerity, aggression and melancholic melodies. Igor also got on the Russian nintendoсore compilation "Sounds Of Post-Soviet Fakebit" dedicated to life in Russia.
After the album's release, Igor started actively searching for new local members. Finding no one, he was joined by his Moscow friend Ilya Guryanov to write guitar parts for the new album. For a short time, the band had only a live member: guitarist Dmitry Donskoy, who quickly left the project. While writing "The Routine: The Game", the band was joined by two new members for the permanent line up: bassist Alexander Lysenko and guitarist Artyom Soldatov. First release by SAL The Band was on a compilation in honor of the net-label "DeadDolphins". It was the single "Mother" dedicated to the game "The Binding Of Isaac" and showed the project's movement towards metalcore.
While Ilya wrote Pixel Unicorn's part for "The Routine: The Game", the Lizard part was created fucking slowly for several months. Artyom was kicked out due to drug addiction (and he is currently in prison) while Alexander was a lazy dick and wrote bass parts for 6 months. In the end, "The Routine: The Game" was finally completed, receiving a good response for better production and Lizard evolved into a duo. Everything was beautiful, but not for so long.
After an unsuccessful and cringy live show, Alexander and Igor became hidden enemies. Everything led to outright bullying on the part of the bassist and taking credit for himself. After that, guitarist and sound engineer Vladislav "Chaotic" abruptly joined the band, but due to a conflict with Alex, Igor decided to freeze the project while Vlad produced new material.
Igor became an oppressed alcoholic and made a bunch of noisegrind projects, completely forgetting about his nintendocore past. But he decided to return to Lizard, re-releasing "Gore For Fantasy " on cassettes with bonus tracks and releasing the unfinished EP "Cannibal Cake".
After a couple of years doing absolutely nothing for the project, except uploading unreleased material, Igor decides to give Super Awkward Lizard a chance at redemption. S/T album was completed jointly by Igor and Chaoteek and later presented at the first SAL live show in 3 years. Towards the end of the year, the duo released a cover of the song "Hey, Cowboy!" by the band Cutting Pink With Knives which was accompanied by their first official music video. Now Igor and Vlad are preparing an EP consisting of completely new songs, one way or another paying tribute to their old art.
