Southeast Asia, with its archipelagic geography and exposure to the western Pacific basin, is highly vulnerable to typhoons. These powerful storms pose significant threats to life, property, and infrastructure, necessitating effective disaster risk management strategies. By utilizing CLIMADA (CLImate AdaPtation) framework and the IBTrACS (International Best Track Archive for Climate Stewardship) data, this project will map typhoon tracks and potential impacts across the region.
Some of significant typhoons are: Bopha, which struck the Philippines in late 2012 resulting in approximately 1,900 fatalities; Haiyan, one of the strongest typhoons ever recorded, which devastated the Philippines in November 2013 and claimed over 6,000 lives; and the more recent Typhoon Yagi, which impacted Vietnam in September 2024, causing over 800 fatalities.
