AI-Reimagined Design Project – Cultural Passage
The Cultural Passage project was designed as a civic cultural building that promotes interaction between people, culture, and architecture. The proposal aimed to create a dynamic community space that accommodates exhibitions, workshops, discussions, and multipurpose activities while encouraging social engagement and cultural exchange. The project also sought to respond to Malaysia's tropical climate by maximizing natural ventilation, daylight penetration, and connections between indoor and outdoor spaces.
The primary objective of the project was to create an inclusive cultural environment that encourages community interaction and public engagement. The design aimed to provide flexible spaces for exhibitions, learning activities, and social events while strengthening the relationship between people and the built environment. Another objective was to develop a climate-responsive building that improves user comfort through natural ventilation, daylight, and shaded public spaces.
However, the proposal also presents several limitations. The environmental strategies can be further enhanced through more advanced shading systems and passive cooling techniques. The public spaces can become more adaptable and interactive, and the material strategy can be improved by incorporating more sustainable and environmentally responsible solutions. These limitations provided an opportunity to reconsider the project and explore how artificial intelligence could support the redesign process and enhance the overall architectural performance.
SECTION 3 – Site Analysis
The Cultural Passage project is located at KLUST Campus near Masjid Ikram and Ikram Lodge, Kajang, Selangor, Malaysia. The site is surrounded by educational facilities and green spaces, creating a strong relationship between the building and the surrounding community. Its strategic location provides accessibility while offering opportunities for cultural and social engagement.

The surrounding environment consists of academic buildings, landscaped areas, and community facilities. The presence of greenery improves the quality of the environment and creates a comfortable setting for public activities. The site also benefits from visual connections to its surroundings, allowing the project to function as an active civic destination.
Malaysia's tropical climate is characterized by high temperatures, humidity, heavy rainfall, and strong solar exposure throughout the year. These environmental conditions significantly influenced the design decisions and required strategies that improve thermal comfort and reduce heat gain.
The site offers several opportunities for developing a civic cultural building. The green surroundings provide a pleasant environment for outdoor activities, while the proximity to community facilities strengthens the building's social role. The open areas around the site also allow natural ventilation and visual connectivity.
Despite its advantages, the site also presents several challenges. The hot tropical climate increases solar heat gain and can affect user comfort. High humidity and heavy rainfall require careful environmental planning. Therefore, the building incorporates shaded façades, natural ventilation, and open public spaces to improve environmental performance and create a comfortable user experience.
