Salem State Community Chorus was co-founded by Valerie Peterson and Lynn Shane in 2017 with the goal of providing an open and affirming, high quality music experience for singers of all ages in the greater Salem State University community. The first SSCC concert featured 42 enthusiastic singers and 3 talented accompanists sharing an eclectic mix of music for an eager audience of 120. Today, the SSCC roster includes nearly 100 singers from over 12 neighboring towns. We perform two concerts each season that feature a variety of music styles and a diverse array of composers. SSCC welcomes singers of all ages, identities, and abilities, and there is no audition required to participate. Our concerts are free and open to the public with donations to the support the work of the chorus accepted at the door.
