Veterans Day
If you have any volunteer opportunities for Post 585, please contact us and we'll see if we can help.Veterans of the Salado American Legion Post 585 were present at the flag raising on Main Street in honor of Veterans Day, 11 Nov 2025. Our Post Commander, Brandon McHenry, introduced the speaker, Brigadier General (Retired) Jose Rivera, also a Post 585 member. The Cub Scouts of Pack 1115 did an excellent job in presenting the colors, and our sister organization VFW Post 12235 was in attendance in force as well.
The veterans of Salado American Legion Post 585 seeks to make a difference in our community by giving away most of the money we collect, saving only for our own post building. For the past two years, we've given $500 to the Salado Cub Scout Pack 1115 to help with their campouts and other needs.
Suicide plagues the veteran community at an alarming rate. When we heard of the Salado High School band hosting the 22 HR Walk for suicide prevention we jumped on the opportunity to pitch in. The post donated $250 to the cause. Additionally legion members and family walked the US and other flags along the organizer's designated route during the post's block of time. The flags kept moving along the route in remembrance for 22 hours.
Many veterans get bussed to one of the Olin Teague System clinics for medical treatment, they may be there all day with limited access to food. The post utilized $400 and created over 200 snack bags and in coordination with other non-profits including the Daughter's of the American Revolution and the SPJST, submitted these snack packs to the VA for distribution to the Olin Teague System Clinics.
