Teaching

My first formal teaching experience was in 2005 during the one year national youth service in Sokoto State, Northern Nigeria. I taught Computer Science in a rural secondary school, a community largely dominated by uneducated people. This responsibility enhanced my teaching and communication skills as I had to prepare lesson notes, teach classes across various levels to people who have never worked with computer. In 2007, during my masters’ programme, I took up a teaching appointment at an IT firm and institute, NIIT. This opportunity helped me to improve significantly on my soft skills. In addition to the teaching role, I was responsible for managing the day to day affairs of the institute. Further, I developed skills in multi-tasking while working under minimum supervision as I was completing my masters programme simultaneously without compromising on any of my duties. In January 2011, I received an offer to join the academic ranks at Nigerian premier University of Ibadan as an assistant lecturer at department of computer science. This was a dream move for me as impacting knowledge and building capacity in the community has been a natural instinct.
