The Shoe Game

The Wedding Shoe Game is a fun and interactive reception activity that lets your guests learn a little more about you as a couple and often with lots of laughs along the way!

Here's how it works:

1. The newlyweds sit back-to-back in the middle of the dance floor. Each person takes off one of their own shoes and one of their partner's shoes, so they're each holding one of each. 

2. A host (usually your DJ, emcee, or coordinator) reads a series of questions like the ones above. Without seeing each other's answers, the couple raises the shoe of the person they think best fits the question. If you both raise the same shoe, it's usually a sign you're on the same page. If your answers are different... that's where the entertainment begins!

3. The Shoe Game typically lasts 10–15 minutes and is a great way to keep guests engaged between dinner and dancing or while waiting for other reception events. It's simple, requires very little setup, and often becomes one of the most memorable (and funniest!) moments of the evening.

Pro Tip: Keep your question list to around 15–20 questions. It's just enough to keep everyone entertained without slowing down the flow of the reception.

What Is a Unity Ceremony?

A unity ceremony is a symbolic tradition that takes place during your wedding ceremony to represent two lives joining together as one. While it's not required, many couples choose to include one because it adds a meaningful, personal touch to their ceremony and reflects their relationship, values, or shared interests.

Blanket Warming

Peanut Butter & Jelly

Each partner spreads either peanut butter or jelly onto a slice of bread before combining them into one sandwich. It's a playful reminder that while you're each unique, you're even better together. (Plus, it's adorable!)

Sand Mixing

Each partner pours a different color of sand into a single container, creating a layered design that can't be separated again. This symbolizes your individual lives becoming one while still celebrating what makes each of you unique.

Handfasting

An ancient tradition where ribbons, cords, or fabric are wrapped around the couple's joined hands as vows are exchanged. The binding represents your commitment and the joining of your lives together and it's where the phrase "tying the knot" originated.

Cord Braiding

Instead of tying hands together, three cords are braided into one. The three strands often represent each partner and the strength of the marriage, though many couples also choose to have the third strand symbolize faith, family, or shared values.

Paint Pour

Each partner pours different paint colors onto a canvas at the same time, creating a one-of-a-kind piece of artwork. Every painting is unique, making it a beautiful keepsake to display in your home.

Potting a Plant

Together, you add soil and plant a flower, tree, or houseplant in one pot. As you care for it throughout your marriage, it serves as a reminder that love, just like a plant, grows stronger with time, attention, and care.
