In February 2019, millions of Algerians took to the streets across the country in what became known as the Hirak movement, demanding political change, dignity, and justice. This photographic project documents fragments of that historic collective awakening, when public space transformed into a site of free expression and civic reclaiming.
Working in black and white, the series strips the scene of distraction, focusing instead on gesture, emotion, tension, and the physical presence of bodies occupying space together. The images do not simply record events; they explore the psychology of the crowd, the choreography of protest, and the fragile balance between hope and uncertainty.
