Sahbuna was officially started by Lindsey Sutton in August 2018. This business grew out of a deep curiosity and appreciation for all things handmade and natural. The name Sahbuna is the Arabic word for soap (befitting the products we make), and was inspired by Lindsey's best friend, who originally comes from Palestine.
A couple of years prior to starting Sahbuna, Lindsey had been playing around with soap making. She started experimenting with the soap she made for personal use, and soon began branching out and creating other goods to use around the house. Over time, these efforts developed into a mission to convert her home from using commercial household products to natural, handmade ones. While this mission is ongoing and evolving, Lindsey couldn't wait to bring these items to others in an effort to help make their homes "greener."
Having been motivated by other small businesses and larger businesses alike, Sahbuna not only creates products to sell but also makes products that can give back to the surrounding community. Because of this, we are committed to donating handmade soap to local charities and creating environmentally friendly products while developing sustainable practices.
At Sahbuna, our philosophy is that the more non-toxic, natural products we use, the healthier we will be as individuals and communities, and the better off the Earth will be. As a principle, we commit to only using essential oils and natural colorants in our products. Additionally, we do not sell products with phthalates, or other harmful chemicals. We respect those with allergies and special needs and have created a system to take custom orders to accommodate these needs.
Not only are we looking towards more natural products but also towards more sustainable practices. One way that this can be accomplished, is through promoting a circular economy. For us, this means incentivizing the reuse of our packaging and containers. Another practice we are committed to, is purchasing our resources locally. While there are some limitations to this, we feel that it is important to support the community around us as much as possible. We will constantly be evaluating and re-evaluating our methods and tweaking them to be better and will share our progress with you.
