In this article it speaks of how 8 Nigerians have been participating in internet scams for the past decade in the United States. These Nigerians completed these scams while in Cape town, South Africa. They lied to Americans promising them false narratives about life in South Africa. They would also create relationships with these Americans in order to get both money as well as gifts. In conclusion, these Nigerians were charged with wire fraud, identity theft as well as money laundering and fraud conspiracy. We can protect this going forward by being careful who we speak to online and to never send money to those we've never met. Also, not moving across the world on one's world.
This article from NBC speaks of ransomware attacks on over 2.5k businesses from a Ukrainian man. The Ukrainian man by the name of Yaroslav Vasinskyi made millions by creating these attacks. These businesses were affected as they had to play him in order to fix their attack which led him to make $2.3 million dollars. He created these attacks by pretending to be a company that ironically creates safety for their software systems. We are able to prevent this going forward by creating more secure databases which are not able to be easily breeched. This being as ransomware attacks are common and cost businesses and individuals thousands of dollars if not millions.
This article from Forbes magazine, talks about some of the games we play and how playing these games were at risk for malware attacks. Who is affected can range from children to adults as those of all ages can play these games. Some of these games can include Fortnite, Call of Duty, Minecraft and even games such as World of Warcraft. We can prevent these attacks by doing thigs such as creating software that more efficiently protects us and our security. Therefore, even the simplest games are able to be played at ease. essentially there are many things we can do to prevent things such as these.
Lesson Learned: The lesson I learned is there are many ways our personal security is taken advantage of and how easily it is able to be taken advantage of. For example, it is easy for scammers to have you fall for tricks and if you use the same passwords, it is also easy to hack important accounts such as banking information. I also learned in depth the most common hacks as well how the world in general is so easily taken advantage of.
Objective: To learn of computer and/ or cyber security as well as how important and vital it is. As well as the different types of ways there is to breech these types of security.
