The 2018 Congressional Election in West Virginia's 3rd Congressional District, a contest between State Delegate Carol Miller and State Senator Richard Ojeda saw the GOP Hold this Ruby Red southern West Virginia congressional seat by 13% in a majorly publiscized campaign.
In this campaign, held in the 2018 Blue Wave election, Caroll Miller sought to tie herself closely with president Trump, who was incredibly popular in this district, taking 75% of the vote two years prior.
By contrast, Ojeda, a state senator from Logan County sought to highlight Miller's ties with the political establishment, noting her pedigree—her father was an 11 term congressman—and attacking her with populist rhetoric as someone who 'doesn't understand West Virginia'
Having supported Trump prior to his run, claiming he was serving the very corrupt people he was supposed to be 'getting rid of' it is likely this, plus Trump's active support for Miller—calling Ojeda "Stone cold crazy" were decisive in giving Miller her 13% win over the state senator.
Concurrently to this race, Moderate Democratic Senator Joe Manchin won the seat in his narrow reelection—with Ojeda underperforming the Popular Senator and former governor by 14%, holding cosest to him in Mingo county.
