The 2016 WV SD-07 (B) State Senate election, a contest between 2014 WV-03 Primary Runner Up Richard Ojeda and future WV Delegate Jordan Bridges saw the then-Trump Voting Ojeda beat Bridges with strong Democratic support in the Ancestrally Democratic WV Coal Country
Before getting to the General election, he first had to beat incumbent Democratic Senator Art Kirkendoll in an acrimounious primary that saw Ojeda get assaulted by a man with connections to Senator Kirkendall—following this event Ojeda beat the senator in the primary with, like in the general, strong support from Coal Country
