The 2022 VA-07th Congressional election, a contest between Incumbent Moderate Democrat Abigail Spanberger and Prince William County Supervisor Yesli Vega saw Spanberger win a comfortable-yet-narrow D+4.7% victory over a suposed GOP 'rising star'
Ouspending Vega $9 Million to $3 Million Spanberger received a major boost in her reelection prospects when Vega stated that 'women who were raped were less likely to become pregnant'—a statement which caused the republican great grief following the increased salience of the abortion topic following the Dobbs v. Jackson court decision overturning Roe v. Wade.
As such, despite attempting to tie the Moderate—who hadn't committed to Joe Biden in 2024, criticized the slogan 'Defund the Police' in 2021 and had in 2019 not supported Nancy Pelosi for Speaker—Spanberger to her party's more unpopular fascets, Vega lost by nearly 5%. In doing so, setting up Spanberger for her current 2025 Gubernatorial run.
