The 2022 Texas Attorney General GOP Primary, a contest between embattled incumbent Ken Paxton, Lands Commissioner George P. Bush, former SCOTX Justice Eva Guzman, and Congressman Louie Gohmert resulted in the combined Field holding Paxton to a Runoff with the Bush Scion.
Due to a securities fraud case that resulted in a restitution agreement, Ken Paxton—with Guzman taking the Republican Hispanic vote, Bush the Suburban Republican Vote, and Gohmert the vote in his district—was held to a runoff despite his being endorsed by GOP leader, former President Donald Trump
Whilst polls near the final days of the primary campaign showed uncertainty as to whether there would be a runnoff—with Ken Paxton not cracking 50% in almost all polls—it was seen as a likely posibility
In turn, there was a close race for second, with Establishment centric Republican George P Bush (after going for—and failing to win—the trump enrorsement) winning a space in the runoff.
However, despite the aforementioned legal troubles enphasized by Bush, Paxton enphasized his support by Trump in the Runoff Campaign, alongside his more arch-conservative style; attacking Bush for being a "RINO" (Republican in Name Only)
Moreover, during the Runoff Campaign, Paxton got a major boost thanks to endorsements from a sleugh of TX GOP electeds—including LG Dan Patrick—whilst Bush got funcionally none.
Because of this, Paxton had a strong lead heading into Election Day—and in doing so crushed George P. Bush by a 36% Margin.
