The 2024 PNP Governor Primary, a contest between the incumbent Governor Pedro Pierluisi and Resident Commissioner Jenniffer Gonzalez Colón resulted in Pierluisi losing by just under a point over half the margin he defeated Wanda Vázquez in the 2020 Primary.
This loss makes Pedro Pierluisi the second Governor in a row to lose renomination because of a primary, the first elected Governor to lose renomination in a Primary, and third Governor overall to lose renomination in Puerto Rico (The other two being Roberto Sánchez Vilella in 1968, and Wanda Vázquez Garcéd in 2020)

The 2024 PNP Primary for Resident Commissioner, a contest between Former Secretary of State under Wanda Vázquez—Captain Elmer Román—and At-Large Senator and former, Ricardo Rosselló Chief of Staff—William Villafañe—resulted in a win for Villafañe.

Taking a look at the winning and losing sides of the Pierluisi tickes, we see that William Villafañe held closest to Pedro Pierluisi—even underperforming him—in the educated/wealthier areas of Puerto Rico, with him overperforming the most in the poorer parts of the island.
Despite this, the most stark overperformance over Pierluisi came in Villafañe's home town of Utuado, with the most stark underperformance coming in Elmer Román's home town of Yauco.
