the 2022 PA SD-05 Special election, a contest between Philly School District employee Jimmy Dillon and former MMA Fighter Sam Orzopeza saw Dillon comfortably hold the republican trending senate seat of Senator John Sabatina — who resigned after being elected to the common court of pleas in 2021.
Following a snafu where his older brother Shawn Dillon didn't file some paperwork to run, Jimmy was selected as the nominee for this seat — holding it until he lost reelection in 2024 to now GOP Senator Joe Picozzi in part due to multiple scandals that befell Sen. Dillon.
In the special election, however, Dillon over-performed not just Biden's showing in the district, but also slightly over-performed Now Senator Fetterman's performance from the coming November.
