The 2025 Hudson County sheriff Democratic Primary election, the key Hudson contest between Craig Guy/Brian Stack's Hudson County Democratic Organization and Steve Fulop/Nick Sacco's Democrat's for Change saw Incumbent Frank X. Schillari be defeted by 7% by Bayonne Mayor James Davis
The underlying reason for the primary was that Frank Schillari, a Nick Sacco Ally, ran on Fulop's slate due to sticking by Sacco and opposing Union City Mayor Brian Stack's influence in the HCDO. In doing so, leading Stack to aid James Davis—who himself saw an opportunity in the war to become Sheriff—in his primary challenge to Schillari
An acrimonious and bitter contest between the three term Mayor and 78 year old/five-term incumbent The results are less akin to an ideological map than a result of the support of the various local machines.
Here, Davis won thanks to his support from his own Machine in Bayonne, the HCDO heavy support in the African American Areas in JC Wards A & F, the Mayors of Weehawken, West New York (Albio Sires), and most importantly Brian Stack's machine in Union city—which Davis wouldn't have won without
By contrast, Davis Kept it close because he was supported by North Bergen's Nick Sacco, Hoboken's Ravi Bhalla & Jersey City Mayor/Gov Candidate Steve Fulop—in addition the the Mayors of Harrison and Secaucus. Schillari was also endorsed by the Mayor of Guttenberg but he lost that town by 11.5% due to Stack & Sires' influence
