The 2024 US House election in NJ's 2nd Congressional district, a landslide reelection for three term incumbent Republican Jeff Van Drew against Democratic Businessman Joe Salerno in the South Jersey Congressional district was a quintesential sleepy congressional campaign for the incumbent that allowed him to easilly maintain his seat
Here, Joe Salerno spent a good amount of his own wealth in his uphil climb to oust Van Drew, and while he barely improved on (D) Tim Alexander's R+18.9% loss, his spending likely helped to prevent downballot Democratic losses in Cumberland County, and gain the Gloucester Sherriff's office and a Commissioner's seat in Cumberland.
Looking at Van Drew's race vs Trump's result in the seat, we can see that Van Drew overperformed Trump the most in his old legislative district (LD-01), overperforming the most in his home town of Dennis, and Upper townships in Cape May county.
The Presidential Election in NJ's 2nd Congressional District likewise saw an incredibly strong margin for Former President Donald Trump, Improving on his 5% win in 2020 to a 13% win in 2024,
with the seat trending by R+2% vs the nation, mostly due to Trump's incredibly strong gains amongst Minorities in Atlantic City, Pleasantvile, Vinland and Millville
The Weakest statewide Republican in the 2nd congressional district in 2024 was GOP senate nominee Curtis Bashaw, mostly due to Andy Kim's strength throughout the state. In doing so, allowing Kim to overperform Kamala Harris by 2.3% in the 2nd district; providing him with a 10.7% loss.
