2024 Essex County Presidential Election
The 2024 Presidential election in Essex County NJ, a contest between Vice President Kamala Harris and Former President Donald Trump in the quintisentially Democratic County is a microcosm of what happened in Urban Counties in the 2024 Elections.
Here, Harris fell backwards by R+5%, R+9 and R+13% respectively in the suburbs of Roseland, Bloomfield, and Caldwell, by R+19% hispanic town of Belleville, by R+12% in the secular Jewish/Asian town of Livingston, and by R+17% in the African American/Hispanic heavy Newark.
Similarly, the Working class suburb of Fairfield NJ swung rightwards by R+9%, as did the white/asian suburb of Millburn (R+11%)
by Contrast, she held up best in the more African American heavy East Orange, with it only swinging by R+5%. Likewise she held up better in Montclair (R+4%), Maplewood (R+0%) and South Orange (R+1%); these three being über progressive and educated suburban townships.
All in all, Harris did best with progressive Suburbanites (doing worse, but not much worse with liberal suburbanites) and African Americans, falling backwards with the White working class, while collapsing with Asians and especially Latinos.
