The 2023 NJ LD-30 Assembly election, a contest between Incumbent Republican Ned Thomson and Democratic Rabbi Avi Schnall Resulted in Schnall's strong victory over Thomson thanks to his strength in Lakewood, and specifically the district's Orthodox Jewish voters.
Here, the traditional GOP lean of the Orthodox Jewish Community was reversed as the Vaad—a collection of Lakewood Rabbis—threw their weight behind Schnall so as to win a seat at the Democratic Table in the legislature that had been controlled by Democrats since the 2001 elections (and uniformly since 2003)
However, that traditional lean did propell the other Republicans on the ticker, Senator Robert Singer, and Assemblyman Sean Kean to 80-20 Wins over their Democratic oponents. Wins which saw Schall overperform his democratic counterparts most strongly in Lakewood, but also in the burgeoning Orthodox community of Howell Township
