The 2014 Nevada Attorney General Election, the closest GOP win in a sea of landslides in Nevada in 2014, Grandson of frm. Nevada Senator Paul Laxalt Adam Laxalt and son of frm. New Mexico senator Pete Domenici won in a narrow contest against then Secretary of State Ross Miller.
Originally seen as a potential landslide for Democrats, denounced by his family, Laxalt made the race close through a pouring in of support and money from national republican groups.
This, in addition to the local Republican wave—and despite heavy attacks on his credentials—allowed Laxalt to win, besting back the son of former NV Gov. Bob Miller, and succeeding Catherine Cortez-Masto as Attorney General; the woman he would later challenge for the Senate in 2022.
