The 2022 MN Gubernatorial Election, a contest between former State Senator Scott Jensen, and Incumbent Governor Tim Walz, resulted in an 8% win for Tim Walz
Despite Jensen focusing on the Cost of living, inflation, taxes, and Walz's handling of the 2020 George Floyed Protests his attempting to avoid the issue of abortion after having supported a total abortion ban—on net made Walz a clear favorite in the blue leaning state for reelection.
Along with this, as Jensen suggested that Democratic Secretary of State Steve Simon should be jailed for his handling of the state elections system despite no evidence of issues, he played into the mass of right wing republicans who beleived in the stolen 2020 election lie.
As a result of all of this, Walz, as an incumbent in a blue leaning state was able to hold on in a disappointing night for Republicans nationwide—his win was even more disappointing for Minnesota Republicans as he gained a trifecta for the MN-DFL, allowing them to implement their agenda fully for the first time in decades.
In his win, we can see that most of Walz's margin came from the blue hydrogen bomb that is the twin cities and their inmediate suburbs, as well as Duluth, while Jensen got most of his votes in the twin cities Exurbs.
