The 2018 MN Gubernatoeial Election, a contest between U.S. Rep for MN-01 Tim Walz, Former MN House Majority leader Rep Erin Murphy, and State Attorney General Lori Swanson saw Walz pull a come behind victory over the well known State AG Swanson and the Progressive MN State convention winner Murphy
Despite Murphy winning the non-binding convention, touting his liberal record over Walz's more conservative/rural voting record in the house, the Frontrunner for most of the race was State Auditor Swanson—leading Walz in the polling throughout the campaign season.
Despite this, Walz, campainging throughout the state with a strong-old style Retail campaign and shedding some of his more conservative positions—such as his opposition to gun control—was able to best both the well known AG and Liberal State Rep to be the 2018 Nominee for MN Gov, and eventually Governor.
