The 2018 Maine Governor Democratic Primary, a contest between incumbent Attorney General Janet Mills, Businessman Adam Cote, Activist Betsy Sweet, former ME House Speaker Mark Eves, and many others resulted in a comfortable win for Mills after the RCV tabulation was complete.
With Mills and Cote as the frontrunner — and the candidates overlapping on many issues despite Mills & Cote being considered among the 'moderates' in the race — the contest was decided on Mills' noteriety
Here, the name recognition and emphasis she placed on fighting unpopular incumbent Governor Paul LePage — in addition to campaign promises such as rural broadband, expanding the Afordable Care act, and restoring civility to maine politics — aided her attaining this primary victory.
Outside of Mills, most candidates ran a civil and cordial race — incentivized to due to Maine's RCV system — mostly agreeing with the policy perscriptions to Maine's issues, but disagreeing on how to implement them.
Nonetheless, Mills' name recognition, longtime tenure in Maine Politics, and Record in fighting LePage stood out in this context; and in doing so gave her a comfortable win over fellow Moderate Democrat Adam Cote in the first Maine RCV primary.
