The 2024 US Congressional election in IA's 1st CD, a rematch from 2022 between Incumbent two term Rep Mariannette Miller Meeks & frm. IA House Rep Christina Bohannan was one of the closest house races in the country & an embarasement for Miller-Meeks; who underperformed Trump in the seat by 8.7%
Following a pitifully small win in her renomination, Miller-Meeks was seen as vulnerable in the red-trending seat. However, due to the national republican lean (& enphasis on the nation's economic malaise), & despite attacks on her opposition to abortion Miller-Meeks still prevailed over the stiff challenge from Bohannan
Regardless, the underlying reason for Miller-Meek's win was Trump's near 9% win in the seat, with the president doing 6% better than in 2020 carrying her to a 0.2% victory.
In this win, Miller-Meeks underperformed Trump most in the more rural parts of the district, holding closest to the president's numbers in Johnson County IA (home to IA city)
