The 2018 Congressional Election in Iowa's 4th Congressional District, a contest between Incumbent White-Nationalist Steve King and Former professional Basketball Player J.D. Scholten was the narrowest reelection of Kings's Career.
Increasingly outspoken in his beleifs, King had faced reelection troubles back in 2012, with Governor Terry Brandstad Saving him, but despite that it was a national surprise when Scholten ended up drawing a close race with King throughout the campaign.
Here, King's outspoken far-right beliefs, such as ending Birthright Citizenship, making English the official language of the United States, meeting with European Far right Parties and endorsing a Toronto Mayoral candidate with Neo-Nazi ties were enough to destroy his reputation.
Following his bare-knuckle win, King was widely condemned for his beliefs, with House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy stripping him of committee assignments, and the GOP's highest African American elected noting that King was among the reasons that the GOP was accused of racism.
