the 2006 Connecticut CD-04 Congressional election, a rematch from 2004 between incumbent Republican Chris Shays and Democratic Candidate Diane Farrell saw Shays Narrowly win reelection despite an onslaught brought by Democrats for his support for the Iraq war.
A former Gingrich Republican who was nonetheless Liberal on many issuse, such as campaign finance reform, Gun Congtroll and abortion, Shays was likewise criticziced by Democrats for being a Rubber Stamp for President Bush,
with he and the NRCC relying heavilly on his independent image to head off both the Iraq war and Rubber stamp attacks—successfully getting Shay's reelected.
Shays, who would lose in the 2008 Obama landslide, would win in 2006 at the same time as GOP Governor Jodi Rell was elected by 36% at the top of the ticket in this ancestrally Republican seat.
