The 2022 US House election in California's 47th Congressional district a contest between former state assembly Minority leader Scott Baugh and CA-45 Incumbent Katie Porter resulted in a closer than expected win for Porter in what was overall a disappointing night for California Democrats.
Thought to be safe after her reelection in 2020 whilst fellow Orange county Democrats Harley Rouda and Gil Cisneros Lost, the addition of down ballot Republican Newport Beach in redistricting, in addition to Newsom's collapse in the seat in the district presented Porter with a close race.
However, due to her incumbency, and a Titanic 11:1 spending advantage, Porter—a strident consumer protection advocate—was able to beat back Baugh's—who blamed Porter and Biden for inflation and high taxes—challenge, winning her final term in congress before retiring to run for senate in 2024.
