The 2024 Anchorage Mayoral Election, a contest between Controvercial Conservative David Bronson, and Independent Liberal Suzanne LaFrance resulted in an ouster of the Controvercial incumbent in favor of a less dogmatic candidate.
As Anchorage Assembly Chair for two of Bronson's years as mayor, LaFrance disagreed with the staunch conservative on multiple policy choices during his mayoralty—frequently overiding and pushing for ovoriding vetos as chair of the Assembly.
In this sense, Bronson campaigned against LaFrance & the assembly being "Woke" and that his stalwart conservatism was needed to balance the assembly's ideological positions—whereas LaFrance argued in favor of a "nonpartisan...problem solving culture [in] city hall"
Not only seeing a combative tone with the Anchorage assembly, Bronson was also investigated by the assembly (including LaFrance) over accusations of unethical and illegal acts within his administration
Also of note, is that in the First round former Anchorage Economic Development Corporation president Bill Popp got 17% of the vote and former Alaska State Representative Chris Tuck got 8% of the vote—neither would endorse in the runoff.
The Runoff ended up being a comfortable victory for LaFrance, who bested the controversial Bronson—allowing LaFrance to become the first woman to be elected to the position of Mayor of Anchorage
