The 2006 Alaska Gubernatorial Election, The Last Election for then Former Governor Tony Knowles, and first election for the Notorious Bomb Thrower Sara Palin resulted in the latter's ascention to the governor's office in an expected comfortable victory.
The First female Governor of Alaska, The estblished Party Outsider had made a name for herself as mayor of Wasilla through cutting taxes and an opponent of Gov. Frank Murkowski after filing an ethics complaint against his politically close Attorney General.
This ended up beeing a help to Palin, as after her defeat of the Incumbent Murkowski in the primary, she was able to best Knowles who ran on being an experienced hand, resulting in Republicans holding the governorship in an otherwise very favorable year to Democrats.
Palin would later famously resign in 2009 after being the GOP's vice presidential nominee in 2008 letting her Lieutenant Governor, Sean Parnell, Assume the reigns of the Governorship
