The 2023 Spanish General Election, coming of the heals of regional victories by rhe Right wing Partido Popular (PP) and far right VOX against left wing parties—especially the left Wing Partido Socialista Obrero Español PSOE—
ended up becoming a severe disappointment as the PSOE led by Pedro Sánchez beat back both parties to secure a narrow majority in the Spanish Cortez General.
Utilizing those victories against them, PP begining coalitions with VOX allowed for Sánchez's PSOE to link the two parties together—presenting himself as the primary alternative to both.
This in addition to some scandals against PP leader Alberto Núñez Feijóo—clashing on with TV journalist who accused him of distorting data on the campaign trail and the surfacing of a decades-old photo showing him on a yacht with a well-known Galician narco
allowed the PSOE to surge and beat back expectations to a strong second place, and coalitional majority once Sánchez brought the hard core Catalan seperatist party Junts into his fold.
