The 2024 Japanese House of Representatives elections, an election that saw the LDP-Komeito Coalition lose it's Majority in the lower house—but retain Government—amidst a backdrop of scandal was a seizemic shift in Japanese politics, one which threatens to be the precurser to the end of the LDP's political hegemony
Fought against the backdrop of the Unification Church Scandal, following the Assasination of Shinzo Abe that revealed controvercial LDP ties to the church, a liteny of campaign financing scandals for the party, and general economic dissatisfaction following years of low growth and a recession,
the LDP was facing heavy headwings against it. However, the opposition was unable to parley the LDP coalition losing its majority to form a government against the party due to its divided and disarrayed nature, allowing for the LDP's Shigeru Ishiba to remain prime minister despite the catastrophic results.
However, the scandals and economic dissatisfaction have not gone away, and with an election this Sunday—the LDP is threatened by potentially losing their majority, or even overall control, in the upper house (the House of Councilors) in July 20, 2025
