The 2025 German Bundestag Election in Berlin, a cantankerous result that saw Die Linke come in a narrow First place over the CDU and the Alternative für Deutschland, is a result emblematic of the fragmented electorate and worrying results for the Center of German Politics posed by the 2025 German election.
While an overall left wing city, the CDU and far-right AfD took a strong showing in the western and eastern 'suburban' areas of the city, whilst the left-wing Grüne and Die Linke were strongest in the City Center.
Beyond this, Die Linke had a strong result in Treptow-Köpenik—one of the more left-wing of the Berlin Boroughs and one of the two most left-wing outer Boroughs—as both they and the Greens fought for first place in the city center, with Die Linke coming out on top.
However, the strong result of both Die Linke and the AfD, combining for 35.04% (and 41.69% with BSW included) over all the votes cast in the City, points to an increasingly polarized electorate between the left & far right—one which threatens to sideline the SPD and Governing CDU in future local Berlin elections.
