Quick Map of the First and Second Rounds of the French Legislative elections
Not going to elaborate much but if interested I'm leaving the Associated Press Article here: (https://apnews.com/article/france-elections-far-right-macron-08f10a7416a2494c85dcd562f33401d1)
Swing between Rassemblement Nationale's 2022 Presidential Election Performance and the 2024 Legislative Election Performance in Mainland France.
Whilst they significantly underperformed pre-election polling, Rassemblement Nationale's 2024 Legislative performance still constituted a major improvement over their 2022 Performance, with RN candidates improving over Le Pen in 538/566 of the non-expat French constituencies
Following the massive success for the French Far Right in the 2024 European Parliamentary elections, Centrist French President Emanuel Maccron called Legislative elections to confirm whether or not French Voters suported the Marine Le Pen's Rassemblent National
Seeking to take advantage of a divided left, he sought to position his Ensemble party as the main oposition force to Le Pen.
However, on the completion of the first round, this strategy failed—not just with the French left Uniting under NUPES and coming in second—but with Le Pen's party leading in 296 seats they were all but set to come out of the second round as the largest party, or even with a majority
However, that was not to be, as the momentum NUPES had upon getting second place in the first round—along side with strategic withdrawls of both Ensemble and NUPES Candidates—propelled it to the largest party in the French parliament, with Ensemble coming in second and RN at a close third.
It should be noted that with no overall majority the French Parliament is thrust into a continuing chaos, and potentially new elections in 2025.
